The First International Conference “Ukrainian Amber Road” was held with support of National Academy of Science of Ukraine, Ministry of Environment Protection of Ukraine, Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, Rivne Region State Administration and Geologists Union of Ukraine.

According to Petro Goguk, in order to resolve the amber problem, its necessary to cancel its precious stone status and define its semi precious stone status as all over the world. It opens possibilities to join labor resources of small and middle business and means to amber extracting and processing – organized digger teams.  Which will replace illegal amber diggers, who destroy lands and forests today selecting only high quality commercial amber, living in land unconditional amber, and obtained currency goes to grey economy. In Accordance with national agenda there  must be adopted the law of saving national resources of Ukraine – amber and defending it from uncontrolled barbarian extracting.

The raw amber and finished goods of amber must be come reliable source of State budget filling for developing Ukrainian economy, pointed out the academician, who believes that only found mining resource’s will be enough for ten years, and the quality in Ukrainian amber is the best for jewelry.

According to the Head of Rivne region State Administration Ms Viktor Matchuk (because in Rivne region itself there are two found mines and 33 perspective amber fields), the amber regulation legislation is quite actual, because now while 3  tons of amber are  extracted legally  by government company «Amber Ukraine» 20 tons are extracted illegally. It makes up the ratio 1/7. In addition  the State suffers extra losses those who extract amber illegally, don’t recultivate the land – and this lands are lost for Ukrainian agriculture.

Therefore, in the opinion of Victor Matchuk need at the legislative level to resolve the issue: punishment should be more severe for illegal extraction of amber, on the one hand and on the other - to give people the opportunity to do this legally.

He estimated that only losses last year from illegal extraction of amber are tens of millions of dollars. "On average 50 million dollars. And besides, we lose amber as raw material, while could, reworking it, supply the world market finished products, which have a completely different value, and also contributed to a positive image Ukraine as a country ", - said Victor Matchuk. He also noted that, unfortunately, the export potential of products Amber hardly used. The reason is simple - the amount of amber, which extracted nowadays of  “Amber Ukraine" is not enough to even satisfy the internal market of Ukraine.
